Equality and diversity

Equality and diversity

We recognise the human rights of our employees, service users and everyone who works with us.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is fully committed to embracing diversity, delivering equality of opportunity.

  • Equality - we aim to create a fairer society where everyone can participate and have the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
  • Diversity - we recognise and value differences between people.
  • Human rights - we treate all human beings fairly, respectfully, equally, in a dignified manner and recognising their autonomy.

We will ensure that equality, diversity and human rights are considered during the design, development and delivery of all our policies, functions and outputs.

Our Equality and Diversity Action Group

Our Equality and Diversity Action Group leads the delivery of equality and diversity within Healthcare Improvement Scotland. The Group targets the following key areas where change is needed:

  • physical access to our offices
  • access to our publications and information
  • access to this website.

The Group works in partnership with particular communities to improve our communications and how we reach our audiences. It learns from profiling our workforce and ensure who works for us reflects Scotland's diverse communities

Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA)

Completing a checklist helps us decide if a policy, function or output of our organisation requires an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA).  We do this for every area of our work, including work which is produced in collaboration with other bodies.  The majority of our work can be progressed with minor or no changes following the completion of an EQIA checklist.  If, during the checklist process, we identify any differential impact on people with any of the nine protected equality characteristics, the checklist will be followed by an impact assessment.  This is a broader process requiring consultation with affected groups, amendments to the original document being assessed and additional research into potential consequences on the groups of people identified.  It is a requirement of equalities legislation that any full impact assessments are published on our website.  You can find our list of EQIA reports here.
