My View - Putting my views at the heart of my mental health
services and support
My View, needs assessment tool comes with staff
guidance notes. These provide extra information for professionals
using My View with service users.
This tool was disseminated to the service in March 2011 and
is also available from the ICP toolkit.
Developing My View
The
Scottish
Schizophrenia Outcomes Study (April 2006), commissioned by the
then Scottish Executive Health Department, concluded that it is
feasible to incorporate service user assessments of need into
routine practice.
The study recommended that all NHS organisations should promote
the use of assessment measures, including service-user led
assessments of need such as Avon. It also recommended that the
content of the Avon mental health measure should be revised and
delivered in a more user-friendly format.
A multidisciplinary, multi-agency steering group was established
with a remit to draft a revised version of the measure, refining
content, format and language. This updated Avon Tool was named ‘My
View’.
A consultation exercise was undertaken through the NHS Quality
Improvement Scotland mental health public involvement group and VOX
Scotland. A pilot exercise was carried out in NHS Ayrshire &
Arran, followed by a comparison exercise undertaken by NHS Dumfries
& Galloway, to establish that data from My View was equivalent
to that captured by Avon.
