NICE Guidance and Scotland

Healthcare Improvement Scotland Alerts for Multiple Technology Appraisals (MTAs) ceased in October 2017.

Recommendations of NICE MTAs published from October 2017 have no status in NHSScotland. This change has no bearing on MTAs that have been endorsed by Healthcare Improvement Scotland to date; the advice from these MTAs will continue to apply.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland Alerts for Single Technology Appraisals ceased in August 2016.

Recommendations of NICE Single Technology Appraisals (STAs) have no status in NHSScotland.

NHS boards are required to consider Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) advice, which can be accessed at https://www.scottishmedicines.org.uk/

NICE Inteventional Procedures

The Interventional Procedures programme aims to protect the safety of patients and to support doctors.  Each piece of guidance makes recommendations about whether the interventional procedure is safe enough and works well enough for routine use. Where there is limited clinical evidence NICE may specify audit criteria to be collected on patients. NHSScotland is part of this programme and all Interventional Procedures guidance is applicable in Scotland.
