Healthcare Services for People with Learning Disabilities

These reports represent the findings from the 2008-2009 learning disabilities peer review visits to NHS boards throughout Scotland. The peer review process was initiated at the request of Shona Robison, Minister for Public Health, following 2 fatal accident inquiries and a number of reports into services for people with learning disabilities across the UK.

NHS QIS published the revised quality indicators for learning disabilities in 2004.

In 2008-2009, the NHS boards were assessed against quality indicators 2 and 3:

Quality Indicator 2: Promoting Inclusion and Wellbeing

Quality Indicator 3: Meeting General Healthcare Needs

These quality indicators were revised prior to the reviews in line with the NHS QIS best practice statement audit tool (Promoting Access to Healthcare for People with Learning Disabilities - 2006).
