Balanced and impartial advice
The
SHTG
aims to
present a balanced and impartial critical appraisal and summary of
the research evidence about new technologies, and/or new evidence
about existing technologies. The
SHTG
sets out to act as
an ‘honest broker’ when interpreting the evidence and provide
independent and unbiased advice.
The
SHTG
complements the
advice supplied by the
SMC
and
SIGN
on
medicines and clinical practice respectively.
SHTG
works in
collaboration with a number of national groups, including the
National Planning Forum.
Secretariat
Healthcare Improvement Scotland provides technical and
secretariat support to the SHTG.
A key function of Healthcare Improvement
Scotland is the evaluation and provision of advice to NHSScotland
on the clinical and cost effectiveness of new and existing health
technologies. Healthcare Improvement Scotland also contributes to
the work of the International health technology assessment
community, promoting robust, evidence-based advice to improve
healthcare decision-making and quality of care through its
membership of HTAi and INAHTA and as an associate
partner of EUnetHTA.
