Evidence based assessment report 2011/001
This report was considered by the SHTG on 24
February 2011. Of particular note this quarter is evidence note 32
and SHTG Advice Statement 002/11 which consider whether the use of
a portable 3D ultrasound bladder scanner to measure bladder volume
would reduce the need for urinary catheterisation and hence
catheter associated urinary tract infections.
For the first time, the report also contains a
new section summarising work published by the NICE medical
technologies advisory committee. This committee evaluates medical
technologies for both devices and diagnostics with the guidance
produced being known as medical technologies guidance and
diagnostics guidance respectively. The first publication by the
NICE medical technologies advisory committee is the SeQuent Please
balloon catheters for in-stent coronary restenosis and this is
summarised within the report.
