Endoscopy reviews
The 45 endoscopy units in Scotland are being visited to assess
their state of readiness and to support units to prepare for formal
Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation.
The first group of local reports and an
overview report are now available.
The second phase starts in April 2011 and will be completed by
December 2011. At that stage we will produce a final report with
recommendations on further improvements to these services.
Global Rating Scale
The Global Rating Scale (GRS) is a web-based self-assessment
tool used by NHS Boards to assess how well they provide a
patient-centred service for endoscopy. Its principle purpose
is to help drive up the quality of patient care across a range of
measures. The GRS tool was developed and implemented in England by
the English National Endoscopy Team and has been now widely adopted
throughout NHSScotland.
Endoscopy units complete the GRS self assessment twice a year.
The endoscopy pre-assessment visits validate the GRS scores and
provide units with a list of key actions and recommendations to
take forward improvements to demonstrate they are delivering safe,
effective and person-centred care within endoscopy services to a
high standard.
JAG accreditation
Each of the 45 endoscopy units in Scotland is being visited to
assess their state of readiness and to support units to prepare for
formal Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation. The assessment
visits follow the principles and methodology of the UK JAG
accreditation scheme which largely mirrors the GRS.
