Clinical governance arrangements in maternity services - one year on

Report on improvement review of NHS Grampian

On 28 March 2011 the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates and Healthcare Improvement Scotland undertook a joint visit to NHS Grampian.

The aim was to review the NHS Board's progress over the last twelve months following the NHS Quality Improvement Scotland review in May 2010.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland found that NHS Grampian had made good initial progress. The NHS Board has put in place robust operational and strategic plans to address the immediate concerns identified from the May 2010 review.

NHS Grampian demonstrated that they are now actively embedding a corporate, strategic approach to clinical governance, risk management and patient safety into maternity services and beyond.

The task for NHS Grampian moving forward is to ensure there is a sustainable, integrated approach to both identify risk and manage it effectively, and to develop a sustainable long term service delivery plan.
