Seminar report describing the future approach to
governance in Scotland
Developing vital systems: Governance and assurance framework
for NHSScotland
On 16 February 2011, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS
QIS) hosted a seminar to help refresh the governance framework for
NHSScotland.
Those leading key governance strands and representing NHS boards
attended.
This report gives a summary of the outcomes from the seminar and
will inform the development of a governance and assurance
framework.
Discussions centred on the agreement that good governance
of healthcare in Scotland needs:
- one governance framework aligned to The Quality
Strategy
- a clear definition of governance and of each of the strands of
governance
- integration and alignment of each of the strands
- an overview of assurance and knowledge of each strand
- guidance for governance committees (similar to that for the
Audit Committee)
More detail of the discussions held is given. This
report was presented to the Scottish Government Health
and Social Care Directorates (SGHSCD).
