Glasgow Royal Infirmary unannounced inspection May 2011
Glasgow Royal Infirmary is in the east of the
city and provides a wide range of services including, an accident
and emergency department and maternity services.
We previously inspected Glasgow Royal
Infirmary in June 2010. That inspection resulted in three
requirements and nine recommendations.
We carried out an unannounced inspection to
Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Wednesday 4 May 2011.
We assessed the hospital against the NHS
Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) HAI standards and inspected
the following areas:
- discharge lounge
- intensive care unit
- ward 7/16 (respiratory)
- ward 14 (medical)
- ward 20/21 (medicine of the
elderly)
- ward 39 (medicine of the
elderly)
- ward 50/51/53 (medical
receiving)
- ward 61 (orthopaedic trauma)
- ward 63 (surgical)
- ward 65 (surgical receiving)
- ward 66 (elective surgery),
and
- ward 69/70 (maternity).
This inspection report highlights
areas of strengths as well as areas for further improvement,
including recommendations for actions.
The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been
removed from the HEI website, as the inspection took place more
