HAI Unannounced Inspection
Inspection Date: 14 December 2010
Borders General Hospital, Melrose,
serves the Scottish Borders region. It contains 318 staffed beds
and has a full range of healthcare specialties.
We carried out an unannounced
inspection to Borders General Hospital on Tuesday 14 December
2010.
We assessed the hospital against the
NHS QIS HAI standards and inspected the following areas:
- intensive therapy unit
- renal dialysis unit
- special care baby unit (SCBU)
- ward 7 (general surgery)
- ward 11 (stroke, palliative care, GP acute)
- ward 12 (general medicine)
- ward 15 (medical paediatrics)
- ward 16 (gynaecology)
- ward 17 (obstetrics).
This inspection report highlights areas of strengths as well as
areas for further improvement, including recommendations for
actions.
The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been
removed from the HEI website, as the inspection took place more
