Gartnavel General Hospital announced inspection January
2012
Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow, is in the west of the city
and operates in close partnership with the Western Infirmary,
Glasgow. It contains 558 staffed beds and has a broad range of
healthcare specialties. Also on this site is the Beatson West of
Scotland Cancer Centre with 170 beds.
We previously inspected Gartnavel General Hospital in May 2011.
That inspection resulted in five requirements and two
recommendations. The inspection report is available on the

We carried out an announced inspection to Gartnavel General
Hospital on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 November 2011.
We assessed the hospital against the NHS Quality Improvement
Scotland (NHS QIS) Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) standards
and inspected the following areas:
- ward B4 (oncology)
- ward B5 (oncology)
- ward B6 (chemotherapy/oncology)
- ward B8 (oncology)
- ward B9 (oncology)
- ward 1C (ophthalmology)
- ward 3A (care of the elderly)
- ward 3C (care of the elderly/stroke rehabilitation)
- ward 4A (general surgery/vascular), and
- ward 7C (respiratory).
The improvement action plan for this
inspection has now been removed from the Healthcare Improvement
Scotland website, as the inspection took place more than 16 weeks
