Vale of Leven Hospital July 12

HEI test

"The hospital is generally clean and well maintained, and education in infection prevention and control is well promoted. However the cleaning and housekeeping of the physiotherapy department needs to improve, as does staff and volunteers’ compliance with national guidance relating to hand hygiene.
Susan Brimelow - Chief Inspector

Vale of Leven Hospital

Unannounced inspection

Inspection Date: 7 June 2012

The Vale of Leven Hospital, Alexandria, serves the region of Dunbartonshire. The hospital has approximately 90 inpatient beds and offers a range of services including maternity, medicine for the elderly, minor injuries and a renal unit.

We previously inspected Vale of Leven Hospital in August 2011. That inspection resulted in two recommendations. The inspection report is available on the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website http://www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org/HEI.aspx.

We carried out an unannounced inspection to Vale of Leven Hospital on Thursday 7 June 2012.

We assessed the hospital against the NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) healthcare associated infection (HAI) standards and inspected the following areas:

  • Lomond ward (general medicine)
  • renal unit
  • physiotherapy department
  • ward 6 (mixed surgical), and
  • ward 15 (elderly assessment/rehabilitation).

The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been removed from the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website, as the inspection took place more than 16 weeks ago.  Please contact NHS Greater Glasgow and Cylde for further information on progress against this action plan.
