Announced inspection

Inspection Date: 18 April 2012

Lorn & Islands General Hospital, Oban, is a 66 bed district general hospital providing acute and community services for the surrounding area and Argyll & Bute Community Health Partnership.

We previously inspected Lorn & Islands General Hospital in January 2011. That inspection resulted in four requirements and three recommendations. The inspection report is available on the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website http://www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org/HEI.aspx.

We carried out an announced inspection to Lorn & Islands General Hospital on Wednesday 18 April 2012.

We assessed the hospital against the NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) healthcare associated infection (HAI) standards and inspected the following areas:

  • accident & emergency department (A&E)
  • ward A (surgical)
  • ward B (medical/high dependency unit) and,
  • ward I (rehabilitation/stroke/palliative care).

This inspection report highlights areas of strengths as well as areas for further improvement, including recommendations for actions.

The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been removed from the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website, as the inspection took place more than 16 weeks ago.  Please contact NHS Highland for further information on progress against this action plan.
