Unannounced inspection

Inspection Date: 10 May 2012

MacKinnon Memorial Hospital is located in Broadford, Isle of Skye. It contains 20 inpatient beds and provides services to the Skye and Lochalsh area. The service which the hospital provides include an accident and emergency department, maternity and general medical.

We previously inspected MacKinnon Memorial Hospital in July 2011. That inspection resulted in two requirements and five recommendations. The inspection report is available on the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website http://www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org/HEI.aspx .

We carried out an unannounced inspection to MacKinnon Memorial Hospital on Thursday 10 May 2012.

We assessed the hospital against the NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) healthcare associated infection (HAI) standards and inspected the following areas:

  • accident and emergency (A&E)
  • general ward, and
  • maternity unit.

The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been removed from the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website, as the inspection took place more than 16 weeks ago.  Please contact NHS Highland for further information on progress against this action plan.
