HAI Unannounced Inspection

Inspection Dates: 26-27 June 2012

Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, is an acute general hospital with 500 beds. Services include accident and emergency, outpatients, maternity unit, coronary care unit and intensive care unit. There are 11 operating theatres.

We previously inspected Raigmore Hospital in March 2011. That inspection resulted in eight requirements and three recommendations. The inspection report is available on the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website http://www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org/HEI.aspx.

We carried out an unannounced inspection to Raigmore Hospital on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 June 2012.

We assessed the hospital against the NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) healthcare associated infection (HAI) standards and inspected the following areas:

  • ward 2C (oncology/haematology)
  • ward 4C (general surgery)
  • ward 5A (medicine of the elderly)
  • ward 6A (acute medical assessment), and
  • ward 6C (cardiology/general medicine).

This report highlights areas of strengths as well as areas for further improvement, including requirements and recommendations.

The improvement action plan for this inspection has now been removed from the HEI website, as the inspection took place more than 16 weeks ago. Please contact NHS Highland for further information on progress against this action plan.
