Pulmonary rehabilitation in Scotland
Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective intervention
for selected patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
(COPD).
PR has been shown to reduce hospital admissions and mortality
rates in patients post COPD exacerbation.
Proven benefits of PR:
- relieving dyspnoea
- enhanced exercise tolerance
- improved quality of life.
Improving PR services
PR is a clinically effective treatment for COPD. NHS boards
should work to make the service available to all those who could
potentially benefit.NHS Boards and respiratory managed clinical
networks (MCNs) can use these resources to review and develop
their local PR services.
