COPD clinical standards

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Services - Clinical Standards and Evaluation

The clinical standards for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Services  were developed by a group of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals and patient representatives. A formal consultation took place.

The accompanying evaluation tool enables NHS boards to review and evaluate their COPD services in relation to each of the criteria within the clinical standards.

These standards are focused on organization and delivery of COPD services, diagnosis and periodic review and palliative care. In order to help providers implement these standards, three priority areas were agreed:

Healthcare Improvement Scotland focused on Standard 4: Pulmonary rehabilitation and implementation and improvement support tools are now availalbe.

Other national projects took forward additional areas of work - Keep Well and DOTS.
