Working together to improve the use of medicines

Medicines Strategy 2012–2015

We know there is a need for safe, effective and cost effective use of medicines.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s medicines strategy outlines how we will achieve our key aim in supporting the patient to get the best possible care in relation to medicines. We aim to become a key player in NHSScotland in the evidence, improvement and scrutiny of medicines.

Below are the four priorities that will help Healthcare Improvement Scotland achieve this aim and make the medicines strategy a success:

  • Foster key strategic alliances and partnerships across Scotland, the UK and Internationally
  • Align and support an innovative, thriving and sustainable programme of work across Healthcare Improvement Scotland that meets patient and clinical need
  • Develop work-streams specific to medicines and technologies across Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s strategies for research, eHealth, knowledge management and patient engagement
  • A dedicated resource within Healthcare Improvement Scotland has been created to develop and deliver the medicines strategy
