3. The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) published a Statement of Advice on this medication for this indication in July 2008. This stated that:

Tenofovir disoproxil (Viread®) is accepted for use within NHS Scotland for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults with compensated liver disease, with evidence of active viral replication, persistently elevated serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and histological evidence of active inflammation and/or fibrosis.
