This NICE guidance was published on 25 April 2012. The web reference for the appraisal and other related documents is: www.nice.org.uk/TA252

NHSScotland should note that:

  1. Recommendations of NICE Single Technology Appraisals (STAs) have no status in NHSScotland.
  2. NHS boards should adhere to the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) advice.

SMC published Statements of Advice (742/11 and 743/11) on this medication for this indication in December 2011. Separate submissions were considered in relation to patients previous treated and those not previously treated. The advice stated that:

telaprevir (Incivo®) is accepted for use within NHSScotland in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin for the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C in adult patients with compensated liver disease (including cirrhosis) who have previously been treated with interferon alfa (pegylated or non-pegylated) alone or in combination with ribavirin, including relapsers, partial responders and null responders.

And:

telaprevir (Incivo®) is accepted for use within NHSScotland in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, for the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C in adult patients with compensated liver disease (including cirrhosis) who are treatment-naïve.
