Boceprevir for the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis
C

NHSScotland should note
that:
- Recommendations of NICE Single Technology
Appraisals (STAs) have no status in NHSScotland.
- NHS boards should adhere to the Scottish
Medicines Consortium (SMC) advice.
SMC published Statements of Advice (722/11 and
723/11) on this medication for this indication in October 2011.
Separate submissions were considered in relation to patients whose
previous treatment has failed and patients not previously treated.
The advice stated that:
boceprevir (Victrelis®) is accepted for use
within NHSScotland for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (HCV)
genotype 1 infection, in combination with peginterferon alfa and
ribavirin, in adult patients with compensated liver disease who
have failed previous therapy.
And:
boceprevir (Victrelis®) is accepted for use
within NHSScotland for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (HCV)
genotype 1 infection, in combination with peginterferon and
ribavirin, in adult patients with compensated liver disease who are
previously untreated.
